| Youth Programs |
YTC offers a year round scholarship program for selected middle-school youth in Travis and Hays Counties, Texas. Applicants are referred through teachers, counselors, Communities in Schools, and visiting teachers-those who are close enough to assess and identify youth who need additional support resources.
These youth referrals are selected according to:
- Levels of interest in creativity
- Need for healthy adult relationships
- Need for increased focus and motivation
- Need for mentorship support
- Vulnerability for falling through the cracks of the social system
YTC does not accept youth who have addictions, are in the Juvenile Justice system or physically aggressive. We want youth BEFORE they fall off the edge or need specialty care.
The program consists of a 5-day residential summer camp with follow-up mentoring, and two refresher retreats (during winter and spring breaks).
Youth Taking Charge Camp offers
Fun - Creative Arts like music, rhythms, songwriting, martial arts
Adventure - Team activities, healthy spontaneity, & environmental awareness
Experience - Hands-on learning in an event-based smoothie operation
YTC defines mentoring as a dedicated relationship where mentor and mentee co-create success over and over again.
Youth gain:
- Core life skills
- Healthy communication and relationship skills
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Healthy elf-image and self-expression with personal development tools
- Action plan with one-to-one mentor and group support
- Evaluative measures to chart progress
Imagine a young person who experiences life as creative and filled with emotional and behavioral options. For each youth who gains experience with healthy choices, a different world is created.
The YTC program provides opportunities for each participant to gain healthy self-esteem, expanded self-esteem, increased self-discipline and a compelling self-image. Self-image is more than a concept. The consequences of youth living impoverished lives directly affects our community. And the consequences of youth living enriched lives prepares the way for a safer and healthier community.
